Our Founder
Our company was founded by Mr. Michael Cusumano, a retired US Marine who loves boats and being on the sea!
Michael was considering trading in his 45-foot trawler for another, more modern boat. Unwilling to make a purchase without being fully informed, he established the US Company, "Cusumano Maritime Captain Services, LLC ((CMCS)" in 2011 as part of his due diligence. This small Business was established to gain access to a large assortment of yachts and equipment by providing services as a Delivery, relief, and private yacht captain, Salvage driver to study equipment failure, and refit consulting services to study design flaws. During this time, he gained a highly respected reputation with customers who sought to benefit from his knowledge, experience, and dependability.
His commitment caught the attention of a former US State governor, who hired CMCS to oversee the troubled production of his yacht in China. With Michael's help, the construction was back on track in just three months. The shipyard recognized Michael's value and contracted him for assistance with their final four orders before their relocation to Croatia.
After the company relocated, Michael received more support requests from customers, leading him to continue supporting builds and expand to provide a better build experience. He completed 19 yachts, including the largest one, M/Y King Baby. As a result, Clipper Motor Yachts of Australia was referred to CMCS by one of the Factory/Brand owners of McConaghy boats for pre-delivery surveys and commissioning for three yachts during COVID-19.
Clipper Motor Yachts had a clear demand in sight and a desire to complete more than the average of 2 boats per year from their shipyards in Guangzhou and Ningbo, China. As a result, they approached CMCS to expand their scope of work. Clipper aimed to produce up to 10 boats per year and wanted Michael to take charge of production and quality control while also taking on additional engineering responsibilities.
The Transition
Michael's journey in Asia began when he made a strategic decision to move his company from the US to China. He believed that this move would not only provide him with a larger pool of employees, but also reduce travel requirements. To facilitate this move, he sought the assistance of his wife Jing Gao, who was also his business partner. She had the local knowledge of government regulations, was well-versed in the business market in Asia, proficient in the language, and connected with local factories and product vendors.
Together they opened Guangzhou Chang You Yacht Co., LTD who immediately assembled top-notch purchasing, engineering, and design staff, provided state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and fully licensed marine engineering software, and began work.
Within two months, orders increased from 2 boats to 14 boats in production. During the first year, as now a China-based Based Company, we delivered Five boats while retaining a minimum of 10 yachts under production.
To continue growth and increase our support for more customers, we relocated our office to Zhuhai to provide greater individualized support better service to all of our customers. This move required renaming the company to Zhuhai Chang You Boat Co., LTD to comply with local naming convention regulations.
Enlightenment
We have been helping factories with Quality Assurance, engineering, and design for more than a decade. However, we have noticed that customers are reaching out to us directly to solve their unexpected issues. We believe that the solution is simple: Chang You Boat company needs to take the lead, design, engineer, and manufacture the boats that customers want. And that is exactly what we are doing.
Chang You Boat has been working in collaboration with several OEM suppliers, factories, and engineers to create the Chang You Fast Displacement Line that meets all the requirements and expectations of our customers. Our team has put in countless hours of hard work to design, engineer, model, and simulate this new product line, which will be unveiled at the Shanghai International Yacht Show in March 2024. Our focus is on putting the needs and desires of our clients first.
